Galería ATC is pleased to announce Canto de amor, (Love song), an exhibition of paintings (oil on canvas) and drawings (pen on paper) by Israeli artist Ofir Dor (1972), resident in Berlin since 2007. This is the artist's second solo exhibition in our gallery. The opening will take place on Friday, November 26, from 6 to 9 p.m., at 39 Callao de Lima Street, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, and will remain open to the public until January 22.
As an artist whose practice is deeply rooted in the studio, Ofir Dor undertakes extensive work with drawing, often as an intermediate step between different iterations of the same subject, constantly elaborating them - as well as compositions - from one painting to the next; a process through which the artist synthesises ideas and reconsiders earlier works in a new light. His interests include art history as a repository of works and ideas, as well as erotic photography and the pervasive scopic practices of the digital age.
With the body at the centre of his work, the sensuality of the line brings out the liveliness of the flesh and an almost childlike glee, as well as a certain incompetence and bewilderment. His paintings, free-form expressions, owe as much to abstract expressionism as to lyrical abstract and other pioneers of Israeli modernism.
Ofir Dor (1972) was born in Israel and has lived in Berlin since 2007. Master of Fine Arts (M.F.A.) from the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he has been a visiting professor at Cooper Union, New York. He has had several solo exhibitions, including "The Bride, the Groom and the Best Friend" at ATC Gallery, Tenerife; Hayarkon 19 Gallery and Sommer Contemporary Art, Tel Aviv; KunstlerHaus Bethanien and Circle 1 Gallery, Berlin; as well as group exhibitions at the Haifa Museum of Art, Israel, and the Galleria d'Arte Moderna, Milan, among others.
