César Schofield Cardoso was born in Mindelo, Cape Verde, in 1973. His current work deals with the post-colonial condition of Cape Verde, a small African country, extremely vulnerable to environmental, social, political and economic factors. In general, the mapping of the problems posed by the postcolonial condition reflects the situation shared by other African countries, such as national representations and narratives, a social structure based on racial categorizations, the dominance of the colonial language over local languages, the lack of African perspectives in the teaching of history, the processes of neo-colonization, the cult of colonial memory, tourism and economic dependence on foreign organizations. Caught in the middle of these questions is a poorly represented and historically poor population. Schofield Cardoso's main means of expression are sound and digital image, as well as online platforms. This is a strategy to avoid the almost inexistence of an art world in their country. The lack of cultural policies results in the absence of art schools, financial support, art venues, museums, critical discourses or professional art careers. Therefore, the use of the online environment creates a wider artistic and supranational space that benefits from virtual networks to build other forms of human interaction. In addition to his country, his work has been exhibited internationally in "Islands Crossings: Between Myth and Hallucinatory Realities, African Mobilities- This Is Not a Refugee Camp Project" with Patti Anahory, curated by Mpho Matsipa, at Kulturstiftung des Bundes, Munich (2018); "RUST: A Glimmer of Freedom Project, Ex-Concentration Camp of Tarrafal, Cape Verde", a video/installation at apexart, New York (2017); "Arte Invisible Project" (collective photography exhibition), at ARCO'07 International Contemporary Art Fair, Madrid.
