Sema Castro

In his painting, gesture and process coincide. A piece will transform through movement, the process containing the enigma of what is ultimately represented.

Sema Castro (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, 1960) lives and works on the island of Tenerife. His artistic practice began in 1990. He uses oil painting on rigid supports, mainly wooden boards on which he practices a technique of gestural automatism that suggests linked figures of an organic character, typical of a primitive Nature without a definitive appearance. In his painting, gesture and process coincide. A piece will transform through movement, the process containing the enigma of what is ultimately represented. Sema Castro has been linked to the galleries Artizar (La Laguna), Manuel Ojeda (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria), Contrast (Barcelona), Bibli (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and Estampa (Madrid). He has participated in various art fairs, including ArtMadrid (Madrid) with Galería Estampa; ARCO (Madrid), ArteSantander (Santander), and NewArt (Barcelona) with Galería Manuel Ojeda; Affordable (Mexico) with Galería Pilar Cubillo; and SCOPE ART FAIR (New York) with Galería Contrast. His work has been presented in Latitude, Dakar Biennial, (Senegal). His first exhibition in our gallery., "Colorido engaño", was during 2022.
