M.Lohrum defines her artistic practice as performative drawing. The stand will present work from two recent series by the artist: Snippets of Rhythm and (charcoal on canvas) Black Field. Feet Drawings (charcoal on paper). In Snippets of Rhythm, the artist applies findings from a collaboration with Calvin Richardson, a principal dancer with the Royal Opera House, to the structure and system of her individual practice. Working on a large-format raw canvas, the artist performs a task or repetitive movement, each of which is associated with a different drawing material. Once the performance is finished, the canvas is fragmented to create frames or gestures. Black Field. Feet Drawings are self-contained and adhere to more constrained boundaries, where the choreographed motions create dense, highly contrasted fields of black against white.
